Dundee Rep’s contemporary restaurant and cafe bar is recruiting for a Sous Chef

Salary: competitive

A fantastic position is available for a Sous Chef to work in the kitchen of Dundee Rep’s restaurant and cafe bar in the city’s cultural quarter.  The kitchen have full autonomy on the menus that focus on brasserie-style dishes with fresh, local Scottish produce featured and the Sous Chef would contribute to the creation of the seasonal menus.  The restaurant provides a lunch and early dinner service for 60 covers, and the cafe provides a six-day-a-week lunch service.


  • Have the ability to work in all areas of the kitchen
  • Have a  stable CV based in a similar contemporary brasserie-style venue where you were cooking with high quality, fresh, local produce
  • Ability to work under pressure in a tidy, methodical manner
  • Show creative problem solving skills
  • Formal culinary training – minimum of level 2 SVQ and intermediate food hygiene
  • Extensive food & beverage knowledge and a keen interest in the local food & beverage offers in the city
  • Ensuring that the kitchen operates in a timely way that meets our quality standard
  • A good understanding of various cooking methods, equipment & procedures
  • Being able to lead the team in the head chef’s  absence including running service
  • Maintain a positive and professional approach with co workers and customers
  • Being able to order from our suppliers with a focus on controlling costs in the kitchen
  • Provide guidance and training to junior members of staff in the kitchen
  • Following kitchen health and safety, keeping up to date with all relevant training
