Sound Technician (Fixed Term)


The Sound Technician is responsible for the efficient and safe running of the Sound department and its equipment, managing sound requirements for the production of Tay Bridge and select visiting work.


  • Maintenance, care and organisation of all sound equipment.
  • Supervising the work of technical team members if required.
  • Liaising with and providing a high quality service to all in-house and visiting creative teams, companies and artistes.
  • Safe rigging of equipment and set up and operation of sound for Tay Bridge, and additional projects as required.
  • Sound programming and operation (including attendance at rehearsals as/when necessary to ensure working knowledge of shows prior to technical rehearsal).
  • Comply with company Health and Safety policies and HSE standards paying particular attention to sound storage and operating areas to ensure a safe working environment at all times. 
  • Installation and replacement of electrical and sound equipment within agreed production budgets. Including onstage communications and call systems.
  • In liaison with sound designers, discussion of design and preparation of stage and equipment for in-house productions.
  • Working within production budgets.
  • Manage Video requirements alongside the Head of Lighting and Deputy Head of Lighting.
  • Insofar as other duties permit provide support for other departments.
  • Adhere to the Theatre’s policies, which are outlined in the Staff Handbook. This list of responsibilities is not exhaustive and the employee may be required to perform duties outside of this as operationally required.
