A somatic laboratory on dance, open to dancers, performers, actors and curious minds willing to connect body and imagination and develop physical awareness.
SDT Studio, Dundee Rep
Thu 16 May, 11am - 4.30pm
Led by Eve Ganneau
“Creating becomes a conversation when we enter a dialogue with whatever we are doing. In this conversation we are drawn along in the moment-by-moment flow of sensation, interchange and choice, rather than following a predetermined intention or idea. Conversations grow as we listen and explore, a constantly shifting process of discovery that changes in momentum, rhythm, clarity or chaos as we work.” M.Tufnell & C.Crickmay, A Widening Field: Journeys in Body and Imagination
In this workshop, we will explore various modes of articulation. The first part of the day will be dedicated to refine our sense of awareness through movement, becoming familiar with the spaces within us as well as around us, gravity and rhythm. In the second part of the day, we will delve into physical and vocal explorations, using tools such as automatic writing, touch and collaboration.
We will go through multiple processes of dancing, pose questions and investigate possibilities. By inviting the body's intelligence to connect with our own creativity, we will be engaged with whole-body refinement. We will visit the multiple bodies we inhabit, to feed investigation and engage the theatre of our imagination to develop a state of embodied awareness.
This workshop is open to dancers, performers, actors and curious minds willing to connect body and imagination and develop physical awareness.
Eve Ganneau’s Biography:
I have been a dance artist for the past 13 years, working around Europe as a dancer, teacher and most recently dance maker. I trained at the National Conservatoire in Paris and worked in various repertory companies including Aalto Ballet Theater, Tanzensemble des Theater Dortmund, Hessian State Theatre and Scottish Dance Theatre.
Since 2015, I have established myself as a freelance artist and have been training to become a certified Feldenkrais practitioner. I was lately involved as a dancer in the collaboration between Scottish Ensemble and Andersson Dance (Sweden), Goldberg Variations – ternary patterns for insomnia, and in a two-year itinerant dance theatre project with Scarlattine Teatro (Italy) that took me across the North Sea and the Mediterranean on a sailing ship. I am a member of Joan Cleville Dance, based in Scotland with whom I have been collaborating for the past three years. I have recently collaborated with musician Su Shaw on the piece Geographical Skin, presented at Hidden Doors festival in Edinburgh.
I am regularly invited to teach fellow professional dancers at The Rep, Scottish Dance Theatre and ZAIK Cologne as well as dancers in vocational training with Verve and NSCD Leeds, SSCD Dundee and NYDCS Glasgow.
