A toast to Catherine Miller
Known to some as The Pirate Queen.
Liked and respected by all.
You’re some woman, Catherine.
Whatever this damned thing is it’ll be no match for you.
There’s no fear of that.
Good health to you.'
As she drifts in and out of consciousness, all the significant people in her life, grandson, daughter, and the ghosts of her youth, drift in and out of sight. What price has she paid for success?
'You didn’t need school.
You had rock and roll.
You said it yourself
You only passed two exams –
Cars and Boys –
The only qualifications you ever needed.'
“Philip Howard’s beautiful and sensitive production …” ★★★★ The Scotsman
"a dreamlike piece of theatre, more evocation than drama, that never ceases to grip"
★★★★ The Guardian
Cars and Boys is a blackly comic and profoundly moving portrait of a towering woman battling with her mortality.
Stuart Paterson is one of Scotland’s leading playwrights, best known for his much-loved versions of Christmas family shows here at the Rep. Cars and Boys has been written specifically for the actors of Dundee Rep Ensemble.
Cars and Boys will be performed in a transverse-seating auditorium on the main stage, providing an intimate theatrical experience.
Running time: 90 mins approx.
Please note, due to the nature of the performance, latecomers will not be admitted.
Also, those who leave the performances before the end will not be readmitted.
