Dundee Rep Ensemble presents Love Song by American playwright John Kolvenbach

Dundee Rep Ensemble perform a deeply touching and richly comic play as part of their Love Season

Dundee Rep Ensemble presents Love Song by American playwright John Kolvenbach at Dundee Rep Theatre from 14 – 23 April. Right at the heart of Dundee Rep’s Love Season, Love Song is an offbeat romantic comedy, centred on three members of a small family.

A wonderfully touching play, Love Song is directed by award-winning artistic director Andrew Panton. Andrew last directed Dundee Rep Ensemble in Mill Lavvies (2012) to sell out audiences and critical acclaim.

Love Song is a brilliantly observed comedy, nominated for an Olivier Award for best new comedy in 2007 when performed at the New Ambassadors Theatre, London. In the play, we meet oddball Beane, his uptight sister Joan and her outspoken husband, Harry.

When Beane’s poverty-stricken apartment is burgled, he meets the woman of his dreams, Molly. Suddenly his world is transformed and he finds himself exhilarated by the simple pleasures of being alive: the taste of sandwiches, the colours of sunlight and the warmth of human touch. Joan is baffled to find her brother so blissfully happy and tries to unravel the story behind Beane’s mysterious new love.

Director Andrew Panton said “It’s a real joy to be back at the Rep and to work with the Ensemble again. I feel very fortunate to be working with some of my favourite Scottish actors on this production.

Love Song is a dark comedy with lots of twists and turns, and I cannot wait to share it with Dundee. There will also be an opportunity for audiences to meet cast members at our post-show discussion held on Friday 22 April following the 7.30pm performance”.

Andrew directs Rep Ensemble cast members Emily Winter (Joan), Barrie Hunter (Harry), Ewan Donald (Beane) and Ewan Somers (Waiter). Visiting actor Sarah Swire (Molly) joins the cast in this delightful journey along the perilous edge of hope and reality.

Love Song is recommended for age 14+ and contains some strong language and scenes of an adult and sexual nature.
