Dundee Rep’s Beautiful People are coming to Tongue

On Wednesday 12 October, Dundee Rep’s Beautiful People (community actors aged 55+) are coming to Tongue and we would love you to join us to create ‘A Ceilidh Play In A Day’.  Inspired by the Ceilidh form of the Rep’s tour of the iconic ‘The Cheviot, The Stag and the Black, Black Oil’ we will spend the day together sharing stories and creating a show for performance that evening. The show will feature movement, song and drama, drawing on the experiences of people from very different communities but with a shared desire to create. The day itself will be fun, informal and highly energising using a range of drama and theatre techniques.  The ceilidh structure lends itself to short episodic scenes that will be created throughout the day with the Beautiful People providing a supporting artistic structure.  We are also delighted to have the Rep Ensemble’s Annie Louise Ross joining us on this project to MC the show. The performance will explore the changes and journeys we make, by choice or otherwise as part of the Luminate Festival 2016.

This work is open to anyone aged 55 and over with no upper age limit and participation is FREE.

We will be bringing two British Sign language Interpreters with us and the show will feature integrated BSL, as we have a deaf actor in our company.  Therefore, the work is fully accessible to members of the local deaf community.  Several of our company are trained as visual guides for participants with visual impairment.  We would encourage anyone who feels they may face a barrier to participation to contact us as we can support a range of access needs.

The ‘Ceilidh Play In A day’ will run from 10am-6pm in Tongue Village Hall with the performance taking place at 7.30pm.  In the tradition of the original Highland Tour of ‘The Cheviot, the Stag and the Black, Black Oil’ the performance will be followed by a ceilidh band and a wee drink! Tickets for the evening event are priced at £5 each and available from the Strathnaver Museum.
