A word from the Young Marketing Team

As well as being members of the cast for “Twice Upon A Time”, some of us were lucky enough to gain more experience in other departments of the theatrical industry. Others within the cast were chosen to be co-composers, assistant directors etc. However we were both selected to be a part of the Youth Marketing Team.

Throughout the meetings, we were assisted by Marketing Officer, Bonnie Smith, who helped us understand the principles of Marketing.  At the first meeting, we had a group discussion on our target markets – this is where we decided upon the type of people who would be interested in watching our performance. Other meetings included a discussion on our current sales levels and what we could do to improve this; one of our ideas was to create a direct mail letter which we sent to all our target markets and regular attendees at the rep – you may have received this in the post.

In conclusion, we have found this experience very challenging and enjoyable as we were able to work with the professionals in this line of business and would like to thank Bonnie for her help and support throughout the process.

Taking shape....

1 June 2009 by Naomi Weir, cast member

Rehearsal shot

Sunday's rehearsal was exciting for everyone, as well as our set and lighting designer, we also had Neil Duffield, the writer of the play, come up to watch us.

Both the 14 - 16s and the 16 - 18s were there, so it was a pretty big rehearsal, but we managed to get a lot done between both acts. It's great meeting the people from the other group, as I don't think we'd ever meet properly if it weren't for this show.

We saw the first set model that Leila (set designer) has made, and it looks really good. Lots of different levels for us to use, and the Cailleach's dress looks amazing! I think It's going to look really effective onstage. It's going to be really good having the Demons inside it. The idea of the disc being repeated throughout the set also works really well.

It's great having people from the youth theatre involved in some of the backstage processes, because it makes it much easier to relay your ideas to them as there is direct contact. Lizzie has been asking some people about what they think the costumes should look like, and she's done some drawings of ideas for some of the characters, which has been good to see and give our input. Can't wait to see what they're going to look like!

Over the past week or two, we've also heard some of the music that Ivan, Callum and Scott have been composing, and it all sounds great. I don't know about anyone else, but it wasn't what I was expecting it to be, and it really works well.

We managed to do most of the scenes with Yelena and the family, and some of the Demon scenes too. This week we'll be working on Zita and Carmen, as they are the only character's that haven't been worked on yet.

A bit scary to think we only have about 6 weeks of rehearsals left! It is going well though, and I think it's going to be awesome once it's all blocked and we can work on the fine details and making everything flow.

Although it's still quite early, Neil seemed to be genuinely pleased with what we had done so far, and it was great to see that he was on the same page as us in terms of storyline and how things should be put across to the audience, and I think that that was a big boost to us all.

Looking forward to the next rehearsal!
