Still locked in grief, Madame Ranyevskaya returns from Paris to her country estate for the first time since her young son drowned. The cherry trees, the pride of the province, are in glorious blossom but the estate is now neglected and mortgaged to the hilt.
Revelling in past glories and their extravagant lifestyle, the family ignore all offers of help as the estate, including her beloved cherry orchard, is sent to auction to pay off spiralling debts.
One of the greatest plays of the twentieth century The Cherry Orchard captures the sexual and emotional turbulence of a family whose pride leaves them unable to adapt and is the most popular of Chekhov's great ‘comedies of life’. It remains as funny and poignant today as when it was written.
Combining the talents of visiting Russian director Vladimir Bouchler who has directed a number of acclaimed productions across Europe with those of the award-winning Rep Ensemble, now celebrating its 10th year of internationally recognised work, this production promises to be a very special collaboration.
Will the cherry orchard be sold and the trees cut down?
Tickets £10 - £17 (concession tickets available)
