Jaimeo Brown's Transcendence: Work Songs / Fergus McCreadie Trio
Dundee Rep, Thursday 16 November at 8pm
Exuberantly inventive jazz - this year's Innovation winner at the Jazz FM Awards.
US Jazz drummer Brown is joined by Jaleel Shaw’s tenor sax and Chris Sholar 's guitar – whose collaborator credentials include Stevie Wonder, Carlos Santana, Q-Tip, Geri Allen, Bobby Hutcherson; Kanye West, Jay-Z, Robert Glasper, and D’Angelo – to present ‘Work Songs’, a rich storytelling of human struggle, survival and, ultimately, freedom. The music is cinematic in scope, weaving samples of legacy folk-recordings and hip-hop beats celebrating the human sprit with warmth, integrity and hope.
‘One of the most exciting, experimental, and important albums set to drop this year.’ (Vice).
'An imaginative contemporary artist with wide horizons and a game-changing jazz approach’ whose work is ‘a unique contemporary jazz venture fuelled by palpably passionate commitment to match its creators’ imagination and skill.' **** (The Guardian)
