Little Red and the Wolf nominated at the UK Theatre Awards

Little Red and the Wolf, a Dundee Rep Ensemble production has been nominated for ‘Best show for children and young people’ at the UK Theatre Awards.

Dundee Rep Ensemble’s production of Little Red and the Wolf, in association with Noisemaker, has been nominated for a UK Theatre Award in the ‘Best show for children and young people’ category. The UK Theatre Awards will be presented at a lunchtime ceremony on Sunday 9 October at Guildhall, London.

The show played at Dundee Rep from Tue 29 March until Sat 9 April 2016.

Little Red and the Wolf follows the story of Red, a young girl from Fayble who just doesn't fit in. But when Red has to visit her Granny in the woods she meets Lyca, a fourlegged friend who changes everything.

Scott Gilmour and Claire McKenzie (Noisemaker) created an adventurous new family musical that takes a fresh look at the timeless fairytale classic and looks at the true power of friendship and what it's like to be different.

Little Red and the Wolf was commissioned as a new piece of children’s theatre by Dundee Rep to allow music, storytelling and song to explore this beloved fairytale under a new light and also marked the first time Noisemaker have collaborated with the Rep.

Both graduates of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, Scott Gilmour and Claire McKenzie began collaborating together in 2012 with a view to develop original and innovative musical theatre; they now run award-winning music theatre company Noisemaker.

The pair were chosen as one of the New Voices 2016 – an award for emerging writers from across the globe selected by New Musicals Inc. and Walt Disney Imagineering Creative Entertainment. They had a selection of their work shown at a series of concerts in Los Angeles during April and May this year.

Scott said: "With Little Red, we set out to make an original, exciting piece of theatre for children and young people that was full of music, song and heart. It's because of the support, freedom and trust that Dundee Rep placed in the story, and in our team, that we were able to succeed. I'm delighted that Little Red has been acknowledged, not just as a quality piece of children's theatre in Scotland, but as one of the best in the UK this year. It serves as testament to The Rep and the incredible work it's continuing to produce for younger audiences."
