Joe Douglas joins the Rep as Associate Artistic Director

Dundee Rep Theatre today announces the appointment of Joe Douglas as their new Associate Artistic Director.

Joe joins the Tay Square theatre full-time in April for a period of 11 months until the end of February 2017.

During this time, the Rep will begin the search for its new Artistic Director, who will replace Jemima Levick.

Joe has worked in Scotland for almost ten years as a director, writer and performer and is no stranger to Dundee Rep Theatre.  Most recently he directed the highly acclaimed production of John McGrath’s The Cheviot, the Stag and the Black, Black Oil, which received seven separate 5-star reviews.

Joe also directed the award-winning Dundee Rep Ensemble in productions including The BFG (2013), was the Mentor Director for the Royal Shakespeare Company & Dundee Rep’s Open Stages Project (2015), and was Staff Director on the UK Tour of Peer Gynt (2009).

Joe Douglas said, “I am thrilled and excited to be joining the exceptional team at Dundee Rep.  I have loved working at the Rep as a freelance artist over the last few years and feel very at home in Dundee.  The city and the theatre are both incredibly special.

“Dundee is buzzing at the moment.  The UNESCO City of Design status is a real achievement, which is now truly beginning to be explored.  The city’s optimistic, independent spirit is infectious and I look forward to being a part of that in my time here.

“At the Rep, the ethos of the Ensemble of performers permeates the building and is an inspiration to other theatres across the UK.  I am especially excited about working with them and developing the Ensemble further in the time that I am here.  I will throw all my energy into making exhilarating work that the city can be proud of.”

Nick Parr, Chief Executive of Dundee Rep added. “We are delighted at the prospect of working with Joe and privileged that he has chosen to take on his first Associate role here in Dundee. With his firsthand knowledge of the city, he brings a unique and exciting perspective to the Rep.”
